About our practice

We started Rustic Mariner because too many people told us they felt alienated by the financial industry. We wanted to create something different.

What drives this work

Financial literacy shouldn't be a luxury reserved for people with economics degrees. Everyone deserves to understand their money—how it works, where it goes, and how to make it serve their goals.

Yet traditional financial services often feel designed to confuse rather than clarify. Hidden fees, jargon-heavy explanations, and advice that seems tailored more to the advisor's commission than the client's benefit.

We built our practice on a different model: transparency, plain language, and fee-based consulting that removes the incentive to push products you don't need.

Our workspace

How we work

Our sessions are structured but not scripted. We follow a framework that ensures we cover essential ground—your income, expenses, goals, concerns—but we adapt based on what matters most to you.

Some clients need help with immediate debt relief. Others are focused on long-term wealth building. A few just want someone to review their plan and confirm they're not missing anything critical. We meet people where they are.

After each consultation, you walk away with a written plan and clear action steps. No ambiguity, no "talk to your accountant and figure it out." We give you the roadmap; you decide how fast to follow it.

Our philosophy on money

Money is a tool, not an end in itself. It's there to enable the life you want—whether that's security, freedom, generosity, or all three. But to use it effectively, you need to understand how it moves through your life.

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all strategies. A 25-year-old with student debt and career ambitions has different priorities than a 50-year-old preparing for retirement. Our advice reflects that reality.

We also don't believe in creating dependency. Our goal is to educate you so that over time, you need us less, not more. That might sound counterintuitive for a business, but we'd rather build trust than lock you into perpetual consulting.

"I expected a sales pitch disguised as advice. Instead, I got someone who listened, asked smart questions, and gave me a plan I could actually follow. Refreshing doesn't even cover it."

— Tom W., Bristol

Who benefits from our services

Our clients include people at every stage of financial life. Recent graduates trying to build good habits early. Mid-career professionals balancing debt payoff with retirement savings. Couples navigating financial decisions together. Pre-retirees making sure they haven't overlooked anything.

What they share is a desire for clarity without condescension. They want expert guidance, but they also want to stay in control of their own decisions.

What you won't find here

We don't sell financial products. We're not affiliated with investment platforms, insurance companies, or banks. We don't earn commissions on recommendations.

This independence matters. It means when we suggest a course of action, it's because it makes sense for your situation—not because it triggers a payout for us.

You also won't find pressure tactics or artificial urgency. If you're not ready to move forward after a consultation, that's fine. Our advice remains valid whether you act on it tomorrow or six months from now.
